Using the Document Outline in XBRL Tagger

Overview

The Document outline panel in XBRL Tagger displays the tagged text and table elements of a Word or PDF document in a structured overview. Entries are grouped by document chapter and table. Each entry shows the assigned taxonomy concept and the technical element name.

The document outline also serves as a navigation aid, letting you jump directly to a tagged element without having to search through the document manually.

The document outline in XBRL Tagger provides the following tabs for Word and PDF documents:

  • On the Text tagging tab, all tagged text blocks are listed, grouped by the document's headings.
  • On the Table tagging tab, all tagged table elements are listed accordingly.

Continuous text blocks that span multiple continuation parts are marked in the outline as Part 2/3, Part 3/3, and so on.

Opening the Document Outline in XBRL Tagger

To open the outline of a Word or PDF document in XBRL Tagger:

Open the document in the XBRL document workspace.

For a Word document, click Document outline in the right sidebar. For a PDF document, click the Document outline list icon in the document toolbar.

The panel is displayed with the Text tagging tab initially selected. Switch to the Table tagging tab if necessary. If the selected tab contains no tagged elements, the panel displays a corresponding message.

Outline of a PDF document in XBRL Tagger

The document outline in XBRL Tagger lets you navigate directly to an element that has already been tagged, including entries on other PDF pages or layers.

To find a tagged element using the document outline in XBRL Tagger:

Select Text tagging or Table tagging in the panel, depending on the element you want to find. You can change the panel tab independently of the document's tagging mode.

If necessary, enter at least three characters in the search field, for example Revenue. The search is case-insensitive and checks the taxonomy concept label, technical name, and available tag value.

Click the entry you want. XBRL Tagger navigates to the corresponding passage or table cell. For a PDF document, XBRL Tagger switches to the page containing the selected element if necessary. XBRL Tagger adjusts the tagging mode and layer to the target element. The panel stays open.

The outline includes tagged elements on the document's different layers. The layer currently selected in the document does not restrict the list. To find passages that have not been tagged, use the text search (see Searching for Text in Documents).

Finding Extension Elements with the Outline in XBRL Tagger

The document outline in XBRL Tagger also displays elements tagged with a concept from your extension taxonomy, for Word and PDF documents and on both tabs. Extension elements are marked with their own icon and technical name. Click an entry to navigate to the tagged element in the document.
