Creating and Designing Dashboards

Dashboards provide a visual overview of the most important financial key figures and KPIs in Banking & Cash Management. They allow users to grasp the status of their liquidity, balances, transactions, and other relevant financial information at a glance.

In Banking & Cash Management, you access dashboards in two places:

Under

Reports | Dashboards

, you find the management view of all dashboards. This workspace is primarily used to administer and manage dashboards. You can

create several dashboards

and define for each dashboard which users can see it and how it loads its data (see the section

Setting the Display Options of a Dashboard

In the

Dashboard

functional area, you find direct access to a selected dashboard. This view is intended for daily use and provides quick access to the most important KPIs.

User permissions also apply within a dashboard: A dashboard displays to each user only the data that their role has access to.

A dashboard is displayed as follows, for example:

In the Dashboards workspace, you define for each dashboard which users can see it and how it loads its data.

The Data Source Type setting determines how the dashboard loads its data and which fields are available to you in design mode. Two modes are available:

Performance optimized

: Reduces loading times for large data volumes. In design mode, this mode displays only the fields that you already use in the dashboard.

Default

: Provides all available fields and data bindings in design mode. Set the

Data Source Type

setting to

Default

before designing a dashboard and back to

Performance optimized

afterwards.

New dashboards are visible for all users by default and load their data in the Performance optimized mode.

To set the display options of a dashboard:

Navigate to Reports | Dashboards.

In the row of the desired dashboard, click the Eye icon.

In the Data Source Type drop-down list, select the desired mode.

Deactivate the Visible For All Users check box if the dashboard is to be visible only for specific users.

In the Users list, select all users for whom the dashboard is to be visible.

Click Save.

The Users list can only be selected if Visible For All Users is deactivated. Make sure to also select your own user — otherwise you cannot save the dashboard.

To create a dashboard:

Navigate to Reports | Dashboards.

Click the Plus icon in the upper left corner. The dashboard is displayed in design mode:

Design your dashboard according to your requirements (see the following section).

You can design a new dashboard under Reports | Dashboards — as described in the previous section — or continue designing an existing dashboard directly via the Dashboard functional area.

To display all available fields and data bindings in design mode, set the Data Source Type setting of the dashboard to Default before designing (see Setting the Display Options of a Dashboard).

A new dashboard is displayed directly in design mode. To design an existing dashboard, first activate the design mode:

Navigate to the Dashboard functional area and select the dashboard that you want to design.

In the toolbar, click Switch to Design Mode.

To leave design mode, click Switch to View Mode in the toolbar.

In design mode, you compose your dashboard from widgets and configure its data sources and settings. In design mode, a dashboard is displayed as follows, for example:

Design mode consists of four main areas:

In design mode, you open the dashboard menu via the Menu icon (☰) in the upper left corner of the dashboard area. The following options are available in the dashboard menu:

Option	Description
Save	Saves the dashboard. The option is only active if there are unsaved changes.
Data Sources	Displays the data sources used by the dashboard. Click Add to open the Add Data Source dialog and select a data source there, for example Account balance for account balances. All widgets in the dashboard can access the added data sources. If you select an added data source, the area displays its fields. Use Add Calculated Field to create calculated fields for the data source, and use Filter to define which data of the data source is loaded.
Title	Defines the title of the dashboard. You can enter the text, toggle the visibility of the title, select the Alignment — Left or Center — and optionally include an image.
Currency	Defines the currency and number format in which currency values are displayed in the dashboard. Select the currency from the list and, under Culture, the desired locale, for example German (Germany).
Parameters	Displays the parameter list of the dashboard. Use Add New Parameter to create parameters that you can use in filter expressions, for example.
Color Scheme	Displays the color schemes of the dashboard. Here you adjust the color assignment of the data elements to ensure consistent colors across all widgets.

You design dashboards by adding and configuring widgets. You customize each widget individually to display the desired data and to tailor the visualization to the respective requirements.

After you have added a widget to the dashboard by drag and drop or by a click, you can edit the widget.

You always find the options for a widget in its toolbar:

Which options and settings are available in the individual areas depends on the widget type. The following sections describe the most common options.

Under Bindings, the following options are available:

Option	Description
Values	Numeric data that is displayed in the widget
Arguments	Categories for grouping the data
Series	Additional grouping level for data series
Hidden Dimensions	Dimensions that are not displayed in the widget. They are available for data operations such as filtering and sorting.
Hidden Measures	Measures that are not displayed in the widget. They are available for data operations such as sorting, top-N values, and conditional formatting.
Data Source	The data source on which the widget is based

Under Filter, the following options are available:

Option	Description
Item Filter	Filters the data that the widget loads. Calculations and totals in the widget are based on the filtered data. Editing: Click the Pencil icon to open the Filter Editor. In the Filter Editor, you can create filter expressions visually or enter them manually in advanced mode. Activate advanced mode for complex filter logic with AND/OR operators. The filter expression is displayed below the editor, for example [Date (Day-Month-Year)] = Today()
Visible Data Filter	Restricts which data points are displayed in the widget. Unlike the Item Filter, this filter does not change the underlying data — calculations and totals continue to use all loaded data.

, this filter does not change the underlying data — calculations and totals continue to use all loaded data.

Under Interactivity, the following options are available:

Option	Description
Master Filter Mode	Determines whether and how the widget acts as a master filter for other dashboard elements. If activated, users can filter other widgets by clicking data elements in the widget. Available modes: - None: The widget does not act as a master filter - Single: Allows the selection of a single element for filtering. The selection can be changed but not cleared - Multiple: Allows the selection of several elements at the same time for filtering
Drill Down	Activates the drill down functionality for hierarchical data analysis. If activated, users can navigate to deeper levels of detail in view mode by clicking data elements, for example from year via quarter and month down to day. Prerequisite: The Arguments area contains several dimensions, arranged from the coarsest to the finest level.
Target Dimensions	Defines which dimensions are used for drill down or master filter interactions. Only available if drill down or master filter is activated. Available options: - Arguments: Uses the argument dimension - Series: Uses the series dimension - Points: Uses individual data points — the combination of argument and series
Ignore Master Filters	Defines whether this widget is affected by master filters of other widgets. If activated, the widget remains unchanged even if other widgets act as master filters.
Cross-Data-Source Filtering	Enables filtering across different data sources. If activated, a widget with data source A can act as a master filter for widgets with data source B. Prerequisite: The fields have the same name in both data sources, and the field is visible in the widget.

Which sections are displayed under Options depends on the widget type. The following options are available:

Option	Description
Style	Defines the visual style of the widget
Common	Contains general display settings that vary depending on the widget type. Typical options include: - Visibility and text of the widget caption - Display of subtitles for pie widgets - Rotation of the widget - Display of labels for gauge widgets
Layout	Defines how the elements of the widget are arranged
Labels	Defines which values are displayed in the data labels and tooltips and how the labels are positioned
Coloring	Defines whether the data elements are colored by dimensions or measures — for example a separate color per argument value or per data series
Color Scheme	Defines which colors are used for the different data elements in your widget. You can: - Select a predefined color scheme from the list - Use Global to assign the same color to equal values in all widgets of the dashboard; with Local, the widget assigns its colors independently of other widgets - Adjust existing color schemes via the edit icon
X-Axis	Controls the horizontal axis of the chart. Contains options for the visibility, orientation, and labeling of the axis. Allows you to configure the zoom functionality, limit the displayed data points, and define the title format. The Format Type setting determines how axis labels are displayed — Default, Long, or Short.
Y-Axis	Controls the vertical axis of the chart. Includes settings for visibility, scaling — linear or logarithmic —, formatting, and labeling. Here you define whether the axis is reversed, whether grid lines are displayed, whether a title appears, and whether the scale starts at zero. In addition, you adjust the unit, the precision, and the Format Type of the axis labels in the Format area.
Legend	Controls the display and position of the legend in the widget
Conditional Formatting	Allows you to define rule-based formatting for widget elements. Includes the selection of the calculation field under Calculated by, the target fields for the formatting under Apply to, and the definition of the condition types. Conditional formatting highlights data visually when specific criteria are met.
Trend Indicators	Configures additional trend lines or indicators in the chart. You name and design each indicator individually. Trend indicators help to visualize patterns and developments in the data.

The Convert To option converts the current widget into a different widget type. The area displays all available widget types, grouped by the categories Common, Maps, and Filter. Use Duplicate current item to create a copy of the widget.
