# XBRL Tagger

## Recently Released Features

### New in Version 260727 (Release Date 2026-07-27)

In addition to bug fixes and stability and performance improvements, the new release contains the following enhancements:

#### PDF documents

The XBRL Tagger now supports PDF documents. You can upload a PDF from the document dashboard and tag it directly in the XBRL Tagger. The PDF is rendered with its original layout so you can work in a familiar document view, and all text tagging and table tagging functions available for Word documents are available for PDFs as well.

#### AI-powered tagging

The XBRL Tagger now supports AI-powered tagging for Word and PDF documents. The **Tagger Agent** analyses the document content and automatically assigns XBRL tags for narrative text blocks, numeric values, and calculation relationships. For **tables**, the agent detects table areas — including multi-page tables — suggests numeric tags for individual cells, and recommends calculation relationships between tagged numeric values. This significantly reduces the manual effort required to tag financial reports.

The Tagger Agent can analyse the current page and automatically assign tags to all suitable elements, or tag all text content in the entire document in a single step.

Each text element has an AI options context menu. This lets you, for example, quickly and easily tag selected text or retrieve AI recommendations.

**Advisor tab**

An **Advisor** tab is available in the tag properties panel for all tag types. Clicking the button in the tab returns an AI-generated explanation for the current tag suggestion. If tag properties are changed after the explanation is displayed, a note indicates that the reasoning is based on settings that have since changed.

**Tagged by AI property**

The **General** tab of the tag properties now includes a **Tagged by AI** field indicating whether a tag was created by AI or entered manually. The **Last change by** field continues to show the user who initiated the AI tagging.

#### Tag update preview

When you upload a new version of an already tagged Word or PDF document, the XBRL Tagger automatically tries to transfer the existing tags from the previous version to the new document based on text and structural similarity — a process also known as **roll-forward**. The new **preview view** gives you a structured overview of the result, so you can review and confirm each tag before the changes are applied to your document.

Once you are satisfied with the result, all confirmed tags are transferred to the new document version with a single click.

**Legend**

A **Legend** is available in the preview view. Clicking the button opens a popup that explains the color coding for tag states and review markers.

#### XBRL blueprint

The new **XBRL blueprint** function lets you inspect your extension taxonomy structure in real time—directly inside the XBRL Tagger, without generating a report package first.

Select **XBRL blueprint** in the document toolbar to see extension taxonomy elements organized into three linkbase trees: **Presentation**, **Calculation**, and **Definition**. Each element shows its tagged values grouped by reporting period; values with dimensional breakdowns are clearly labeled so you can identify each dimension combination at a glance. Extension taxonomy elements are visually distinguished from base taxonomy elements throughout all three trees.

![XBRL blueprint in the XBRL Tagger with the Presentation, Calculation, and Definition linkbase trees](https://support.lucanet.com/assets/docs-images/whats-new/what-s-new-in-xbrl-tagger-/_images/en/xbrl_blueprint.png)

Clicking an element in the tree jumps directly to the corresponding tagged location in the document, so you can make corrections without losing your place. The view is live-synced: any tagging change you make in the document is reflected in the tree immediately, with no manual refresh required.

**XBRL blueprint** is available when the active reporting requirement includes an extension taxonomy.

#### Document Outline

The new **Document Outline** panel lists all tagged elements in a structured outline that follows the document hierarchy. Clicking an entry navigates directly to the corresponding tag in the document. The outline also displays elements that were tagged with elements from the extension taxonomy.

#### Copying tagged tables to another layer

You can now copy a tagged table with all its XBRL tags to another layer — saving you from re-tagging every cell manually when the same table is needed for different calculations on a second layer. Right-click the table in **Table tagging** and select **Copy to layer**, then choose the target. Tags on the new layer are independent of the source.

#### Moving a tag to another layer

Individual tagged text elements can now also be moved to another layer via the context menu. Right-click the tagged element and select **Move to another layer**.

#### Manual table detection controls

The XBRL Tagger now includes manual table detection controls in the **Table tagging** view. When you switch to Table tagging, the XBRL Tagger detects tables in the document automatically. If a table is missed, click **Scan page for tables** to trigger detection manually. Boundary refinement tools let you adjust the boundaries of a detected table before tagging.

#### KVK registration number validation

The XBRL Tagger now validates the KVK registration number format before generating a report package. If the number entered in the **KVK filing information** panel does not meet the required format, a notification is displayed and the report package cannot be generated until the number is corrected.

### New in Version 260615 (Release Date 2026-06-15)

In addition to bug fixes and stability and performance improvements, the new release contains the following enhancements:

#### Roll-Forward of Tags in Updated Word Documents

As of now, you can perform a roll-forward of existing tags in Word documents in the XBRL Tagger. Via the context menu in the document dashboard, a new version of an already tagged document can be uploaded. The XBRL Tagger automatically reapplies existing tags from the previous version to the new document.

By this means, you will not lose any existing tags when updating a document.

This feature is available for standalone Word documents only and does not apply to documents linked to Disclosure Management. For documents linked to Disclosure Management, a [separate update mode](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xbrl-tagger/dashboard-xbrltagger#options-in-the-threedot-menu) is available.

#### Versioning and Version History for Word Documents

You can now save a named version of a document and its complete tag state. The history of all versions can be opened from the toolbar of a document, allowing you to browse all saved versions, download a previous version, or restore it.

The version history holds up to 50 entries. Individual versions can be marked as favorites to prevent automatic removal beyond the 50th entry.

#### KVK Filing Information

For Dutch reporting, the **KVK filing Information** panel is now available in the document toolbar in the XBRL Tagger. The panel is only displayed when a KVK taxonomy has been selected, and lists all mandatory fields per Annex II, point 3 of the RTS.

If tagged values in the report match the mandatory fields, they are automatically extracted and marked as read-only. If a manually entered value differs from an automatically extracted value, a conflict notification is displayed. The iXBRL report package can be generated at any time, however it is not valid without all mandatory fields being complete.

### New in Version 260423 (Release Date 2026-05-06)

In addition to bug fixes and stability and performance improvements, the new release contains the following enhancements:

#### Managing Continuation Chains

You can now manage continuation chains directly in the XBRL Tagger. When a tagged text block extends across multiple sections of a document, the individual sections are linked into a continuation chain. In the new **Continuation Administration** dialog, you can view and manage the entire chain in one place.

#### Multi-Panel Mode

You can now activate a **multi-panel mode** in the XBRL Tagger that allows you to open up to three panels side by side. For example, activate the multi-panel mode to open and edit the taxonomy, validation results, and properties in parallel. Use the toggle to switch between single-panel and multi-panel mode.

#### Hidden Elements

In the XBRL Tagger, you can now enter and tag values that are not present as visible elements in the source document. This feature is particularly relevant for reports in which certain values must be reported that do not appear explicitly in the document. You can add values and assign these elements to elements from the taxonomy by drag-and-drop.

Hidden elements are part of the document validation and the iXBRL export: they are considered during XBRL validation and included in the iXBRL report package.

#### Managing Footnotes

With the new footnote management, footnotes can be created as separate tags and linked to the corresponding table cells or text passages, increasing traceability and machine readability.

The **footnote** panel in the sidebar shows a list of all footnotes available in the currently open document.

#### Cross-Table Tag Navigation in the Calculation View

In the **Calculation** linkbase, the XBRL Tagger now shows which summands are used in other tables of the same report: summands that are used in multiple tables are highlighted with a **light red background** and a **red information icon**. Click the information icon to navigate directly to the corresponding table and cell. This way, you can check cross-table tag relationships at a glance and quickly identify tagging inconsistencies.

#### Adjusting Custom Hierarchies

In the **XBRL Tagger**, you can now adjust the hierarchy of dimension members and abstract elements directly. Use the **Custom hierarchies** button in the toolbar of the XBRL document to open a dialog with two tabs:

- **Dimensional hierarchy**: On this tab, you can rearrange dimension members and their axes per table.
- **Abstract hierarchy**: On this tab, you can restructure abstract elements of an extension taxonomy per role.

On both tabs, you can move elements by drag-and-drop, change parent-child relationships, or add further elements from the taxonomy view by drag-and-drop. The XBRL Tagger applies the saved hierarchy to the generated extension taxonomy as well as to the final iXBRL report.

### New in Version 260327 (Release Date 2026-04-13)

In addition to bug fixes and stability and performance improvements, the new release contains the following enhancements:

#### Dedicated User Roles for XBRL Tagger

The XBRL Tagger now has its own user roles, independent of Disclosure Management. The following roles are available:

- **Administrator**: Has full visibility into all documents in the company and can perform all actions.
- **Editor**: The default user role. Can work in documents that the user has created themselves or has been invited to.

Existing users are automatically migrated to the new roles:

- Disclosure Management administrators become **Administrators**.
- Users with any other Disclosure Management role become **Editors**.

User roles are created and managed in the Platform workspace **Administration** under **Users**.

## Older Versions

### New in Version 260303 (Release Date 2026-03-05)

In addition to bug fixes and stability and performance improvements, the new release contains the following enhancements:

#### Layers

XBRL Tagger now supports layers for tagging. With tagging layers, you can apply different tags to the same text block more than once _._ Because tags in one layer must not overlap, you can add another layer for overlapping tagging blocks. This is useful when, for example, a paragraph has to be tagged with two different taxonomy elements.

Tagging layers for a document are managed in the **layer manager**. The default layer is always present and cannot be deleted. Layers that contain tags are labeled in the layer view.

#### Text and Table Tagging on Separate Tabs

XBRL Tagger now has two separate tabs: **Text tagging** and **Table tagging**. Previously, text could only be tagged if a content control had been inserted in the document first. With the split into text tagging and table tagging, this step is no longer required: text blocks can now be selected and tagged directly in the XBRL editor. The separate views also prevent text tags and table tags from obscuring each other.

On the **Text tagging** tab, you can select text blocks in Word documents directly in the editor and apply an XBRL tag to them. Select the text by clicking and dragging. Handles at the start and end of the selection allow you to adjust the selected range afterwards.

On the **Table tagging** tab, table cells can be individually selected and tagged.

#### Calculations

Calculations are a regulatory requirement: XBRL reports must document mathematical relationships between financial figures in so-called **calculation linkbases**. This records which elements make up a total—for example, **Total Assets = Current Assets + Non-Current Assets**. Auditors and regulators expect this information as part of a valid XBRL report. XBRL Tagger now provides the **calculation view** for this purpose. When you click a cell in a document that contains a calculation, the related details are displayed. Color coding indicates whether the calculated total matches the reported value: green means a match, red means a deviation. If there is a deviation, the delta (absolute difference) is also displayed.

The calculation view makes the mathematical structure of the XBRL report transparent and helps you spot deviations early, before the report is submitted. That reduces the risk of validation errors at regulatory filing.

**Displaying Full Details**

The calculation view also offers the **Full details** option. When this option is activated, additional technical information is displayed for each summand:

- **Parsed value**: The numeric value that XBRL Tagger read directly from the source document, before sign or weight is applied. This allows you to check whether the tagger interpreted the number correctly.
- **Technical name**: The identifier of the assigned taxonomy element. This is especially useful when several elements in a taxonomy share the same display label—for example in German ESEF translations where different elements use the same German term.

The detail view shows this information only for the summands, not for the total. The colour coding (green/red) for validation is also kept in the detail view. The detail view is aimed in particular at XBRL specialists and internal auditors. It supports full traceability of the calculation logic and makes audit documentation easier. Deviations can be traced to incorrect value reading or sign logic.

#### Row Order

When tagging tables, you can use the **Row Order** function to adjust the order of the table rows. This function has now been optimized as follows: In the **Table Row Order** dialog, you can easily switch between the tables in your document using a drop-down list. As soon as you select a table from the drop-down list, the corresponding rows for the selected table are automatically displayed:

![Dialog 'Table Row Order'](https://support.lucanet.com/assets/docs-images/whats-new/what-s-new-in-xbrl-tagger-/_images/en/row-order.png)
Dialog 'Table Row Order'

This improvement optimizes your workflow by allowing you to manage row order across multiple tables without having to return to the document. Lucanet XBRL Tagger also protects your work by warning you of unsaved changes when switching between tables, ensuring that no changes are lost.

#### Automatic Assignment of Taxonomy

When uploading a document that already has tagging, a matching taxonomy is now suggested automatically and displayed in the **Add New Document** dialog. You can change the suggested taxonomy manually if necessary.

#### Adjustments from Reporting Manuals

The amended and expanded requirements, e.g., from the ESMA 2025 Reporting Manual, have been implemented in the XBRL Tagger and can be applied there.
