# Lucanet xP&A

## What is xP&A?

**xP&A** stands for **Extended Planning & Analysis** — Lucanet's modeling, forecasting, and planning solution. It gives you a single, real-time view of financial and operational data so you can build models, create forecasts, and combine data from multiple sources in one place.

For more information on the solution, see [xP&A](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis.md).

## Which model types can I create in xP&A?

When creating a new model in xP&A, you can choose between the following types:

- **Generate a model** (recommended) — build a model from a plain-language description using the **Modeler Agent**.
- **New model** — create a model manually from scratch.
- **Wizard** — use a guided setup for one of the predefined model types: **P&L and Runway**, **Full P&L and balance sheet report**, **Headcount plan**, or **Sales and pipeline report**.

For more information, see [Creating a Model](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/creating-model.md).

## How do I use the xP&A Modeler Agent to build a model?

The Modeler Agent is an AI agent built into xP&A that builds a planning model from a plain-language description, so you do not have to create sections, variable groups, variables, timesteps, aggregations, and formulas by hand.

On the xP&A start page, click **New model**, select **Generate a model**, and describe the model you want, for example "Create a SaaS revenue model with ARR, churn, and expansion". Review the generated plan and click **Build model**. You can then edit every section, cell, formula, or variable like in any other model.

**Restrictions:** The Modeler Agent cannot include reports from Consolidation & Financial Planning, and you cannot add a data source through the Modeler Agent.

For more information, see [Creating a New Model Using the Modeler Agent](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/creating-model.md#creating-a-new-model-using-the-modeler-agent) and [Agents](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/lume/agents.md).

## Can I import data into only one specific view?

No — imports in xP&A are connected to variables, not views. When you link a variable to an integrated data source, that data becomes available wherever the variable is used across the model, in every view that includes it, not just a single view.

For more information, see [Linking Variables to Integrated Data](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/integrating-data/working-with-integrated-data/linking-variables-to-integrated-data.md).

## How does data move between xP&A and Consolidation & Financial Planning (CFP)?

In xP&A, data flows both ways with **Consolidation & Financial Planning (CFP)**: CFP provides actual data for planning in xP&A, and you can transfer modeled planning data from xP&A back into CFP.

- The transfer from xP&A to CFP is a manual, script-based **export and import process**, not a one-time setup — you export data from xP&A, then import it into CFP via a configured script, data source, and assignment table. Once set up, you repeat a shorter update flow for each subsequent transfer.
- Before starting, make sure your xP&A variables can be mapped to GL accounts, your models include a dimension that can be mapped to CFP reporting entities or cost centers, and you have configured accounting rules so postings balance, or use a different import type.

For more information, see [Guideline for Exchanging Data Between xP&A and CFP](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/integrating-data/guideline-data-exchange-xPA-CFP.md).

## How can I use AI to help build variables in xP&A?

xP&A offers three AI options when creating variables:

- **Ask AI → Suggest variables** — get one-off AI suggestions for new variables based on your existing model.
- **Ask AI → Prompt AI** — describe a calculation or analysis in plain language and get suggested variables for it.
- **Vibe Mode** — enable this option in the model settings to get automatic variable suggestions as you work.

AI-suggested variables appear in the **Inputs** section, where you can accept or reject them individually or in bulk, or ask AI to **Retry**.

For more information, see [Creating Variables Using AI](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-edit-variables/creating-variables-using-AI.md).

## How can I copy a value across multiple months in xP&A?

In xP&A, enter or override a value in one cell, then drag it across the rest of the row to apply the same value or formula to the other months, instead of entering each period one by one. You can also edit the formula in the row's formula field once to apply it across all timesteps at the same time.

For more information, see [Dimensions, Variables, and Formulas](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/using-dimensions/dimensions-variables-and-formulas.md).

## How do I display a total for a group of variables in xP&A?

In xP&A, you do not add a separate "total line" formula the way you would in a structure in Consolidation & Financial Planning. Instead, you can display a total for a group of variables in the following ways:

- **In the spreadsheet**, click the sum icon at the top of a group or section row to add a total that stays automatically up to date as variables are added or removed.
- **On a table**, add the group or section itself as a series to include a total row alongside its variables.
- **In a formula**, you can also write `sum(Group Name)` to aggregate all variables in a group, e.g. `sum(Revenue)` for a group called **Revenue**. The functions `avg`, `min`, and `max` work the same way. The formula updates automatically as the group's membership changes.

For more information, see [Using Groups](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-edit-variables/using-groups.md) and [Using Sections](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-edit-variables/using-sections.md).

## How do I create a dashboard in xP&A?

In xP&A, you do not create a dashboard as a separate object — a dashboard is a view onto your model that xP&A generates automatically. It displays your model's input variables at the top and its charts underneath. Add and arrange charts, tables, text, and comments directly on the dashboard to build it out.

For more information, see [Using Dashboards](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/viewing-and-visualizing-data/using-dashboards.md).

## How do I create a table in xP&A?

In xP&A, tables visualize your data as a pivot table, in either the **Spreadsheet** or **Dashboard** workspace. Right-click a variable and choose **Create chart | Table**. Alternatively, open the **Charts** side panel or click the **+** icon on a dashboard, and choose **New chart | Table**. You can drag and drop additional variables onto the table to add them.

For more information, see [Using Tables](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/viewing-and-visualizing-data/using-tables.md).

## What user roles are available in xP&A?

xP&A controls access at three levels — organization, model, and folder. At the organization level, there are four roles:

- **Administrator** — can create, edit, and share models, add or remove people from the organization, and create teams.
- **Editor** — can create, edit, and share models, and create and accept change proposals on models.
- **Data Collector** — can propose changes to variables and dimension items, write comments, and annotate charts, but cannot directly add, delete, or update models, folders, data sources, visuals, groups, or sections.
- **Viewer** — can view dashboards shared with the organization and build their own models, but cannot access other models to make changes, or share their own models with the organization.

On top of the organization-level role, you can further restrict access to an individual model or its folder to **Full access**, **Can edit**, **Can create change proposals**, or **Can view** — and you can share a model as a whole or limit the sharing to just one view.

For more information, see [User Roles and Permissions in xP&A](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/user-roles-xPA.md).

## Can I keep an xP&A view private, or share it with only specific people?

Yes. In xP&A, creating a view does not share it with anyone — sharing is a separate, optional step. To share a view with specific collaborators, open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of a view or a spreadsheet and click **Share**. Then choose the users, teams, or organizations and their access level: **No access**, **Can view**, or **Can edit**.

Your own access to save or share views at all depends on your role: **Viewers** can only view the model's dashboard. **Data Collectors** can open and use views shared with them, but cannot create, save, or share their own views. **Editors** and **Administrators** get whatever access is explicitly granted to them on a given model or view.

For more information, see [Sharing Views](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/viewing-and-visualizing-data/using-views/sharing-views.md).

## Can I restore an xP&A model I deleted by mistake?

No, you cannot restore a deleted model in xP&A. To protect against accidental loss, use **named versions** (manual, point-in-time snapshots you can roll back to) and **cloning** (to keep a safe copy before making risky changes) proactively, since neither helps after a model itself has already been deleted.

For more information, see [Versioning a Model](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/working-with-models/versioning-a-model.md) and [Cloning a Model](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/working-with-models/cloning-a-model.md).

## Can I see who else is working in the same xP&A model?

Yes — in the **Spreadsheet** workspace, xP&A displays an initials icon in the top-right corner for everyone else currently in the model. Hover over an icon to display their full name. xP&A also supports multiplayer editing: If someone else makes a change while you are both in the model, a pop-up lets you pull in their edits. If you ignore the pop-up, xP&A combines non-conflicting changes automatically.

For more information, see [Multi-Player Modeling](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/working-with-models/multi-player-modeling.md).

## Does adding scenarios increase my xP&A cell consumption?

Yes — scenarios are one of the multipliers in your model's total cell count: variables × dimension items × timesteps × scenarios. Each additional scenario therefore directly increases the number of cells used and can affect model performance once cell counts get large. The default limit is 150 million cells per organization. Contact Lucanet if you need a higher limit.

For more information, see [Cells and Limits](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/working-with-models/cells-and-limits.md).

## What does "Invalid number" mean in an xP&A formula, and how do I fix it?

In xP&A, "Invalid number" means your formula produces a result that is not a valid number — for example, a division by zero or the square root of a negative number. Correct the underlying formula, or wrap it with the **`if_error`** function to return an alternative value such as a placeholder instead of an error.

For more information, see [Troubleshooting](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-andedit-formulas/troubleshooting.md).

## Is there an IFERROR equivalent in xP&A formulas?

Yes — in xP&A, use the **`if_error`** function to catch an invalid-number error in a formula and return a fallback value instead, similar to MS Excel's `IFERROR`.

For more information, see [Troubleshooting](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-andedit-formulas/troubleshooting.md).

## What does the "A function has an incorrect number of arguments" error mean in xP&A?

In xP&A, the error "A function has an incorrect number of arguments" means a function in your formula was called with too many or too few parameters. Check the correct number of arguments for the function on the [Functions](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-andedit-formulas/functions.md) page and adjust your formula.

For more information, see [Troubleshooting](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-andedit-formulas/troubleshooting.md) and [Functions](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/xp-a---extended-planning-and-analysis/modeling-your-data/create-andedit-formulas/functions.md).
