# Creating Profit Centers

## Overview

Profit centers are a **master data dimension** in Lucanet Lease Accounting. You can assign a profit center to a [contract component](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/lease-accounting/data-collection/create-configure-contract-components.md) in the **General information** tab and aggregate the [Account balance report](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/lease-accounting/export-data.md) by profit center.

A profit center applies either to a specific reporting entity or to all reporting entities. In addition, you can relate a profit center to a [cost center](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/lease-accounting/basic-configuration-lease-accounting/import-cost-center.md).

> **Note:** - The **Profit centers** workspace requires the **Full access administrator** or **Settings administrator** role (see [User Roles](https://support.lucanet.com/en/documentation/lease-accounting/user-roles-la.md)).
> - Profit centers are also available if you use Lucanet Lease Accounting integrated with Consolidation & Financial Planning. Because this dimension does not exist there, profit centers are not transferred to Consolidation & Financial Planning.

## The 'Profit centers' Workspace

The **Profit centers** workspace lists all profit centers in a table and is displayed as follows, for example:

## Creating Profit Centers

To create a profit center:

1. Navigate to **Settings | Profit centers**.

2. Click **Add profit center**. The **Add Profit Center** dialog is displayed:

3. Specify whether the profit center is related to a reporting entity:

    - If **Is the profit center related to a reporting entity?** is set to **Yes**, select the **Reporting entity** in the drop-down list. By default, the reporting entity you are signed into is selected.
    - If you set the toggle to **No**, the profit center is available for all reporting entities.

4. If applicable, select a **Related cost center**. The drop-down list offers the cost centers that are available for all reporting entities as well as the cost centers of the selected reporting entity.

5. Enter the **Name of the profit center**.

6. Click **Save**. The profit center is displayed in the **Profit centers** table and can be assigned to contract components of the corresponding reporting entity.
